We have begun our unit on 3D Shapes in Math this week! To better understand the material, we will be utilizing technology in various ways. There will be three activities which use technology, and the students will publish their work on the class website. Classroom discussions, hands-on math manipulatives, and paper-pencil materials will be included in this unit as well as the interactive technology pieces.
Below is an outline of the elements of this unit:
1. Gathering Background Information
Students will complete an online survey via Google Forms. This document will be posted in our Google Classroom and they will complete it in class.
Students will create a 3D model of a castle using Tinkercad. Check out Tinkercad here! Students will use various 3D shapes to create a castle design (we will explore previous castle designs to get inspiration!).
You can view the example of my Tinkercad castle here.
3. Activity #2
Students will create an online animation video explaining 3 facts about 3D shapes. They may choose to explain any 3 facts about shapes they have learned about in class. Students will use PowToon to create their animations.
You can view the example of my PowToon animation here.
4. Activity #3
Students will create an online presentation using Google Slides. They will choose 5 different 3D shapes to describe in a slide. They will write the number of faces, edges, and vertices for the shapes they choose. They will identify an example of that 3D shape and put an image of their example on each slide.
You can view the example of my Google Slides presentation here.
5. Publishing
Students will post all their assignments on our Google Classroom platform.
